FIVA - Heritage Hall of Fame Awards 2023

Published: 15/03/2023

It is with great pleasure and pride that FIVA announce once again another edition of the very successful initiative, the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame awards, which has had a very good start since 2021. It has already become a highly prestigious award, and we believe that it is contributing significantly to the cause of the historic vehicle movement worldwide.

The FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame awards is a ‘space’ for honouring selected legends of motoring history and the historic vehicle movement. To explain the concept once again:

FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame

A person qualifies for induction into the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame as a tribute to his or her lifetime achievements in the history of the automobile (including two-wheelers, cars, commercial vehicles, tractors, etc.). It is for individuals who have made major contributions to the automobile, directly or indirectly, in terms of products, design, engineering, marketing or concepts that have proved ground-breaking, or trend-setting, and are recognised as iconic and long-lasting, with a real impact on motoring history. The nominees’ involvement in motoring history will ideally stretch back to the 20th Century and, to be considered, they will need to have contributed substantially to promoting, preserving and protecting motoring heritage. In exceptional cases, the award may be granted posthumously.

Nominees might include people from the fields of:
-          Engineering
-          Design
-          Management
-          Motorsport
As well as…
-          People involved with museums; or collectors, restorers, organisers of historic events
Recognised historians, publishers, authors and journalists with a track record relating to the automobile.

Nomination process:

If you wish to nominate up to three individuals from your country, two of who should ideally be alive, and the third could be someone who has passed on. These should be individuals who you believe deserve recognition for their sterling work in the fields listed above. To justify the nomination, may we please request:

  • 250-400 words explaining why you believe the person deserves this prestigious recognition, including achievements and awards, as well as the age, history, current residency and a photo (or photos) of the individual
  • Any links to citations, awards or articles that refer to the person you have nominated
  • Any other documentation to support the candidature

Please note that each country will be allowed to nominate a maximum of three candidates (two alive, one who has passed away).

Please also note that the final date for sending us the nomination is 17 of April 2023.

To decide on this year's awards for the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame, we rely once again on a highly knowledgeable and prestigious jury of nine very prominent personalities from the automotive and historic vehicle world.

Jury members:

Nick Mason (United Kingdom)
McKeel Hagerty (USA)
Alberto Lenz (Mexico)
Shiro Nakamura (Japan)
Gaby von Oppenheim (Germany)
Patrick Rollet (France)
Navaz Bhathena Sandhu (India)
Eli Solomon (Singapore)
Tiddo Bresters (The Netherlands) – as FIVA’s acting President

Selection process:

Soon after the nominations have been received, an initial selection process will be carried out by a team from FIVA’s General Committee.

Following the first round of selection, a list of the most promising candidates will be provided to the jury, who will discuss and deliberate and make their selection. We will then contact you to announce the award winners and agree to the details of an appropriate event to celebrate the occasion.

Award ceremonies:

To be organised in the city or country of residence of the recipient, with involvement from the National Members and representatives from FIVA’s General Committee, plus any jury members who are able to attend the event, this will be an important opportunity for local media coverage.
As you may have noticed from the last two years, this new award has been welcomed as highly prestigious and extremely significant, both culturally and industrially, for the historic vehicle movement. We trust it will enhance FIVA’s reputation as the global organisation defending this movement and will thus be of benefit to FIVA’s members.

We look forward to receiving nomination(s) from you and your country by the 17 of April 2023.
