Borrow a Classic scheme

Originally called the Classic Car Loan Project, it was created by Bob Wilkinson (of the Ford Y & C Register) and is supported by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs and Peter James Insurance.

The scheme was launched at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, Warwickshire in 2016 and re-branded in January 2025 when a new team (of young people) was created to move the project to the next stage. 

The scheme's purpose is simple: To offer young enthusiasts the opportunity to borrow a classic car for a full year – for free – fostering interest in historic vehicle ownership.

Cars for the scheme are provided by supporting clubs and private individuals, and there is a proper handover and mentoring during the loan period. After the year ends, a number of drivers have gone on to buy their own classic car.
