Don't delay - buy your Drive-it Day plate today!

Published: 31/03/2026

Steph Holloway of  I Drive a Classic joined the FBHVC stand at the NEC Restoration Show to encourage people to buy Drive-it Day and Ride-it Day plates. She is with a 1949 5.2L straight-eight Buick Roadmaster that was on the Federation’s stand.

It's time to show your support for Drive-it Day and Ride-it Day - the annual event where the entire classic vehicle movement gets together and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the 'One Thousand Mile Trial'.

This was an 11-day round-Britain public test, that started on 23 April 1900 to "prove the viability" of the new-fangled invention - the motor car.

This year's day on Sunday 26 April will be marked with events all over the country and particpants are encouraged to show their support by buying a special Rally Plate.

Better still, all profits from the sales go to the NSPCC's Childline charity which helps all children, with its 24/7 advice and phone support lines. So far, enthusiasts have raised more than £250,000 towards this lifeline cause.

“Sales of plates are very strong and we're aiming for record year" says FBHVC Director Andy Bye.

"Plates are selling swiftly and we encourage people to order earlier, rather than later, to avoid disappointment. Indeed, we’ve just placed a final ’top-up’ order of plates to ensure we can supply all anticipated orders.

“The 2026 campaign is off to a flying start, thanks to a £5,000 donation by the Messerschmitt Enthusiasts Club, which is sponsoring the production costs of this year's plates - meaning that even more money will be raised for the NSPCC's Childline charity.

“We have two sizes of plates available, along with special Ride-it Day plates for our motorcycle supporters.

“We are especially encouraged by the sales of Platinum plates, which recognise the larger donation made by supporters, and are currently tracking ahead of last year’s sales at this point"
